The area around the eyes is the most delicate part of the face. The skin here is up to ten times thinner than on the rest of the face, has fewer sebaceous glands—which makes it more prone to dryness—and is subjected to constant movement: blinking, expressions, and gestures. It is no coincidence that it is also the first area where expression lines appear.
When should you start using eye cream?
The answer that surprises many: from the age of 20. Not because you have wrinkles at that age, but because prevention is always more effective than treatment. The skin around the eyes begins to lose elasticity very early, and the habits you establish in your youth determine how that area looks decades later.
If you are already over 30, the best time to start is now.
Why is facial cream not enough?
Many people skip eye cream, thinking their moisturizer reaches that area. The problem is that facial creams are formulated for the skin of the face—which is thicker and more resistant—and can be too heavy for the eye area, or even cause irritation. An eye cream has a specific formulation: active ingredients in concentrations suitable for more sensitive skin, with a texture that does not clog the pores in that area.
What to look for in an eye cream
- Expression lines: Look for polypeptides, gentle retinol, or vitamin A.
- Dark circles: Ingredients like vitamin K, caffeine, or extracts that improve microcirculation.
- Puffiness: Draining and decongesting active ingredients.
- Dryness: Hyaluronic acid, ceramides, gentle butters.
Eye contour cream vs. eye contour serum: which one is for you?
At La Forêt, we have two options for this area, and the difference is not one of quality but of texture and skin profile:
The MPC Eye and Lip Contour Cream is a denser cream, ideal for dry or mature skin that needs intense nourishment and hydration around the eye. It combines anti-aging actives with ingredients that improve firmness and reduce visible signs of aging.
The Eye Contour Serum has a light, serum-like texture, perfect for normal to oily skin, or for those who prefer faster absorption without a heavy feeling on the eyelid. It shares the anti-aging benefits of the cream—reduction of lines, improvement of firmness—but in a lighter, fast-absorbing format.
Both offer similar results. The choice depends on how your skin feels and what texture you prefer.
How to apply it correctly
- Take a small amount—the size of a grain of rice per eye is enough.
- Use your ring finger—it naturally exerts the least pressure.
- Apply with gentle tapping motions from the outer corner of the eye toward the tear duct, following the orbital bone. Never drag.
Never stretch or rub. The skin around the eyes does not recover easily from repeated stretching.
Morning, night, or both?
Ideally, use it twice a day: in the morning to protect and decongest, and at night to repair and regenerate. If you can only choose one time, choose at night—that is when the skin performs its most active regeneration processes.
